  • What are exploitation activities?
Also known as commercialisation, exploitation is the identification of project results that hold commercial value and guide partners in developing them into market-ready solutions. The end result is usually a comprehensive business plan that was developed hand-in-hand with project partners.
  • What is the difference between dissemination and exploitation?
Dissemination is promoting and sharing project results with the public, while exploitation focuses on using results to create value, often commercially. Gate2Horizon is focusing on the latter.
  • How can Gate2Horizon help in finding suitable partners?
With our extensive network of over 150 partners across Europe, Gate2Horizon connects clients with organisations that bring value to the project’s specific goals.
  • Does Gate2Horizon help in proposal writing?

  • What is the relation between Gate2Horizon and Gate2Growth?
Gate2Horizon is a non-profit organisation acting as an exploitation partner in EU-funded projects. On the other hand, Gate2Growth, our sister company provides strategic guidance on soft-funding opportunities, helping SMEs secure grants and additional funding streams. Gate2Horizon focuses on Pillar II of the Horizon Europe funding program, while Gate2Growth focuses on Pillar III.
  • What costs are eligible in an EU project?
Eligible costs typically include personnel, travel, equipment, and materials, as long as they are necessary for achieving project objectives and complying with domestic and EU financial rules.
  • What happens if my proposal is not funded?
If your proposal is not successful, we offer revision support, providing feedback to strengthen future applications based on evaluator comments.
  • How do project payments work in Horizon Europe?
Payments are generally made in multiple instalments: an initial pre-financing, interim payments based on reporting, and a final payment upon project completion.
  • What is the Horizon Europe (HE) program?
Horizon Europe is the EU's primary funding program for research and innovation, aimed at boosting European competitiveness and addressing global challenges. It funds projects across multiple areas, supporting collaborations to bring new ideas to market.
  • How can I find active calls under Horizon Europe?
You can find Horizon Europe calls on the European Commission’s Funding & Tenders Portal. You can filter by topic, type, and deadline to find calls that align with your project focus.
  • What is a consortium, and why is it needed?
A consortium is a partnership of organizations working together to achieve a common project goal, usually involving academia, industry, and sometimes government or nonprofit organisations. Working in a consortium strengthens cross-border relationships, knowledge sharing, and close collaboration across the value chain.
  • Who can participate in Horizon Europe calls?
Participants typically include research institutions, universities, companies (especially SMEs), and sometimes public sector organisations. Eligibility varies by call, so it is best to review specific requirements.
  • What does “TRL” mean in the context of EU projects?
TRL stands for Technology Readiness Level. It is a scale from 1 to 9 used to assess the maturity level of a technology, where 1 is an idea and 9 is market-ready.
